How the habit started

The habit didn't start with a vendor pitch. Clinicians started pasting notes into consumer AI tools because it was fast, and fast mattered more than anything else in a day with no slack in it.

The plumbing underneath

The problem isn't the habit, it's the plumbing underneath it. Consumer AI tools were never built to be a covered entity's business associate. There's no BAA, no guarantee about training data, and no audit trail if a patient or a regulator ever asks where a piece of information went.

Why it doesn't feel like a problem

None of that shows up as friction in the moment. The tool still answers, the note still gets drafted, and everything feels normal right up until it isn't. That gap between how it feels and what's actually happening is the entire reason a compliant alternative needs to feel just as fast, not slower.
